Cape Charles Beach – Great for Family Time
Cape Charles is located approximately 10 miles north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. One of the most popular features of this historic town is the Cape Charles Town Beach, which runs along the length of Bay Avenue. The beach is free and open to the public; even parking is free! This is the perfect place to bring a beach chair to sit back with your feet in the sand and watch the sun dip below the horizon.
Free Fishing Pier
Along the south end of the Cape Charles Beach is a fishing pier where you can fish for free with no fishing license. Anglers have caught drum, sea mullet (whiting), trout and more from the Cape Charles fishing pier.
Child-Friendly Beach
The south end of the beach includes a roped off area for swimming. Many families enjoy the Cape Charles Beach because of the shallow protected waters.
Walk to Town & Amenities
Whether you are staying in town on vacation or visiting for the day, the Cape Charles Beach is a very short walk to restaurants, cool treats like ice cream and shave ice, coffee houses, a wine shop, a cidery, a distillery, unique gift shops and more. Park your car…or golf cart…and explore!
A Beautiful Sunset Spot
The Cape Charles Beach is one of the Chesapeake Properties top three favorite spots to watch the sun set over the Chesapeake Bay. Check out this article for our other favorites!
How do I get to the beach?
The Cape Charles Beach is located along the length of Bay Avenue on the west side of Cape Charles. As you enter town, you will see the Chesapeake Properties building on your left (you’ll notice our fountain out front). You have a couple of options from there. To go directly to the beach, stay straight until it ends. Another option (which we recommend) is to take a left at Chesapeake Properties. That will wrap you around the south side of Cape Charles on to Bay Avenue, which is our main street, with many of the restaurants, shops and other businesses.
