BACKGROUND
Where did you grow up?
I am an Eastern Shore native. I raised in the small towns of Oyster and Cheriton, but spent most of my life in Cape Charles.
Have you lived anywhere else other than the Eastern Shore? If so, where?
I would always say “I can’t wait until I graduate so I can leave the shore”; with that being a goal. I was quick to go off to college, however, I didn’t venture far. I attended Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA and lived off campus for 2 years and found myself coming home every weekend. “The Lure of the Shore” was an understatement for me; there were many reasons why I had to come back. Nothing but love here!
Have you traveled a lot? Where are some of the places you have been?
I can’t say that I have traveled a lot for pleasure, but through business. I have visited many places that some have on their bucket lists, such as Las Vegas, Nashville, and Savannah. I fell in love with Savannah because it felt like home!
REAL ESTATE
In what year did you begin your career in real estate?
I began as a receptionist for Chesapeake Properties in 2000 and acquired my real estate license in 2001.
What originally got you interested in real estate?
Hearing the term receptionist, one thinks of filing, answering calls and greeting people that come in the office….and that is exactly what I did, it was my job. Sound boring? It was far from boring…it became personal instead of just a job. Having complete strangers walk in, express interest and say that they love the area became an amazing feeling for me. I cannot tell you of how great it feels to see others fall in love with the area that you have loved your whole life!
What do you enjoy most about being a real estate agent (or your job)?
Our property management department is full service and covers a lot of tasks from booking vacation stays to maintenance. Personally, I enjoy all of these tasks because it creates a sense of accomplishment each day, but the area I love the most is establishing relationships with our owners and guests. Being a part of one’s vacation experience can be very rewarding.
EASTERN SHORE CONNECTION
Why did you settle on the Eastern Shore?
I chose to settle here on the shore because it is my home and I wanted to be close to my family.
What is your favorite outdoor activity on the Eastern Shore?
There are many things I enjoy doing outdoors. Most of the activities are spending time with family and friends. I love fishing throughout the year, the shore is known for its great ‘catches’. Sundays are our beach days during the summer. I enjoy the beach in the Spring and Fall as well…ideal for strolls and captivating sunsets. My boys and I enjoy walking the trails at the state park and the industrial park.
Do you prefer the seaside or bayside of the Eastern Shore? Why?
It is hard to say that I have a preference between the bayside or seaside. We are very lucky to have both! From the beautiful beaches and amazing sunsets on the bayside to the abundant wildlife and stunning sunrises on the seaside…I find it difficult to choose one over the other.
PERSONAL
How long have you lived at your current home?
I have lived in Cheriton for 5 years.
If time and budget were unlimited, what would be your dream adventure?
Since my father is from Norway, my dream would be to take my family to Norway to explore our roots and experience their culture. It would be a very moving experience for me.
Where do you usually go (or what do you do) when you have time off?
Family and friends are important to me and spending time with them is what I like to do when I have time off. There is nothing like having a huge Sunday dinner with family or a bonfire and football game with friends. That’s the good life!
