✊ Juneteenth in Cape Charles — June 19

The Impact Center, 1500 Old Cape Charles Road | 1:00–6:00 PM

June 19 brings two powerful, connected Juneteenth events to Cape Charles — and together they make for a full, meaningful day.

The First Annual Juneteenth Celebration at the Impact Center kicks off at 1:30 PM with a historical lecture, Patriots of Color & Their Eastern Shore Roots, featuring genealogists and historians exploring the Revolutionary Era contributions of people of color on Virginia’s Eastern Shore. From 3:00 PM, an outdoor community celebration presented by Virginia Black Lifestyle Magazine will include the reading of General Order No. 3, the Black National Anthem, a student art exhibit, a vendor marketplace, live DJ entertainment, and community reflections. At 4:00 PM, a live art installation by Cape Charles Elementary alumnus Richard Press rounds out the afternoon.

Running alongside is the 2026 Virginia Juneteenth Parade, also at the Impact Center (1–6 PM), bringing the parade to Cape Charles for the second year with a special focus on the legacy of the Washington-Rosenwald schools and the theme Education is Liberation. Free admission, food trucks on site — bring lawn chairs and blankets.

This is a family-friendly, free celebration honoring history, community, and Cape Charles’ own deep roots.

This is the big one. As an official Sail Virginia℠ 2026 Affiliate Harbor, Cape Charles will welcome four historic tall ships to its harbor as part of America’s 250th birthday celebration. The ships (the Kalmar Nyckel, Lynx, AJ Meerwald, and Luna) will be open for free public tours from noon until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

But SailFest is more than just the ships. Expect:

  • Period re-enactors and presentations by local historians
  • A curated artisan vendor market with maritime and nautical wares
  • A fife & drum corps and live music on the bandshell stage both afternoons
  • A Saturday evening concert featuring Three Sheets to the Wind
  • Free learn-to-sail opportunities with Cape Charles Community Sailing instructors
  • Beautifully restored Chesapeake Bay oyster buy boats on display in the harbor
  • Fireworks

This is a free, family-friendly event and a genuine once-in-a-generation moment for Cape Charles. If you’ve been on the fence about visiting the Eastern Shore, this is the weekend to come.
